Criminal Behavior Case Study
The purpose of this assignment is for you to analyze how personality impacts real-life behaviors in a criminal case study. Case studies are an in-depth evaluation of a single individual. This assignment will challenge you to explore personality from various psychological and cultural aspects. Using any of the resources you have available, read, listen to, or watch a short documentary on a specific, known criminal of your choice. Ensure the media is factual. When making a choice consider the wide variety of crimes a person may engage in; violent crime, property crime, white-collar crime, organized crime, and “victimless” crime. Ensure the chosen case has been solved and you have adequate information on the criminal’s background.
A minimum of one in text citation must be included (your textbook will suffice) and a total word count of 600-750 words upon completion of the worksheet. Cite any references accordingly using in-text citations and a reference list in APA format.
1. Identify the following:
· Location of the media (YouTube, Netflix, PBS, GCU Library, etc.):
· Title of the media:
· Name of the criminal:
· Crime(s) committed:
2. Provide a brief four to six sentence description of the individual. Provide the information you think someone will need to understand who this person is, consider demographics (e.g., schooling, family, age, religion, socioeconomic status) and psychological data. Note: Be sure to take good notes during your viewing. You may have to do some outside research to find additional information.
3. Provide a brief four to six sentence description outlining the individual’s personality development from a psychological standpoint and how the expression of their traits may have contributed to their crime. Include factors such as family, society, culture, and biological elements. Utilize your textbook as a resource to help you provide an answer.
4. Glance ahead in the textbook and briefly examine the chapters connected to personality theory. Compare the major components of Freud’s theory of personality (psychoanalytic) with one other theorist (e.g. Jung-Trait Theory). Discuss which theory or theoretical approach of personality appears to best fit your individual’s personality development (e.g. psychoanalytic, trait, biological, cognitive, humanistic, behavioral). Use specific concepts, ideas, terminology, and content presented in that chapter to explain why the individual engaged in criminal activity. Make sure you properly cite the textbook using APA formatting.
5. Based on the description of your preferred theory, discuss what additional information you might need to confirm whether the criminal fits the theory identified. Devise a list of 7-10 open-ended questions you might ask them during an intake interview.
