In this assignment, students will conduct an interview and/or research in order to write a topical paper about entrepreneurship. Students should begin by reading Chapter 31. In addition to the chapter text, students will either interview a chosen entrepreneur directly OR research similar ″interview-type″ questions/answers about a chosen entrepreneur. The entrepreneur should be part of a business that is a full-time venture and not a part-time side job or hobby and have a supervisory role over at least one additional employee. The goal is to gain insights about entrepreneurship and management that cannot be obtained from classroom experience alone. Background: Students should begin by reading Chapter 31 of the course text. Preparation: Students should identify an individual entrepreneur to interview or research. Interview/Research: Students should select 3-5 entrepreneurial themes/concepts driven by the chapter text, research and/or interview questions (see below) to include in the topical paper. Whether direct interview or secondary research is utilized, students must use content from the chapter text to support the main ideas presented in the paper. Paper: Students will write a topical paper on entrepreneurship based on the chapter text and a personal interview or secondary research conducted. Students may use the provided interview questions to form the interview or research, but students should NOT simply conduct and submit a question and answer interview. Rather, three to 5 topical themes/concepts must be introduced and described that demonstrate the student′s understanding of entrepreneurship and/or innovation in business. Key components of the paper include: Introduction, including entrepreneur′s name and business with general history and background/success over time Entrepreneurial themes/concepts learned (3-5) from interview/research with some application of content from chapter text Conclusion – what was learned and/or gained (personal takeaways) from the interview/research Paper length should be a minimum of 800 words. Professional tone, writing, and proper use of grammar is expected. Students may consider the following links to help identify some entrepreneur interview questions or come up with their own, but it′s generally important to have specific questions to form the interview or guide the research: http://www.indeed.com/career-advice/interviewing/questions-to-ask-entrepreneur (Links to an external site.) http://www.livecareer.com/resources/interviews/questions/entrepreneurial-informational-interviewing (Links to an external site.) http://www.khanacademy.org/college-careers-more/entrepreneurship2/interviews-entrepreneurs
