addition of a catalyst, increase in surface area of a solid reactant) affect the rate of a chemical reaction
[IP, PR, AI]
Instructions
1. You will be writing a lab report on an experiment where you will observing
how various factors affect the rate of a chemical reaction.
2. To begin this task, watch this video and make sure you jot down important
steps, chemicals and equipment used so that you can write an effective lab
report :-

LAB REPORT FORMAT
The goal of lab reports is: document your findings and communicate their
significance.
ONLY USE PAST TENSE AND THIRD PERSON
e.g the experiment was done and the results were satisfactory.

Further Reading
1. The Title Page needs to contain the name of the experiment, your name, and the
date. Titles should be straightforward, informative, and less than ten words (i.e.
Not “Lab #4” but “Lab #4: Classification of substances as acids, bases or neutral”).
2. The Abstract – A short summary of the experiment which tells the reader if
they would like to read the entire experiment.
3. The introduction – the aim or the purpose/reason of the experiment
4. Methods and Materials (or Equipment) can usually be a simple list, but make
sure it is accurate and complete
5. Experimental Procedure describes the process in chronological order.
6. Results – All calculations, tables and figures. Name all your tables and figures
as table 1 or figure 1.
7. Discussion – Explain, Analyze, Interpret your report. This part of the lab focuses
on a question of understanding “What is the significance or meaning of the results?
8. Conclusion – State what you know for sure now.
9. References – state your sources.
