This fictional case study is based on a real case that involved a former student of BU’s MS in Project Management degree program. The student worked at a major energy company where he was responsible for the construction and commissioning of multiple airstrips. When you consider that the construction of each airstrip was a project—and that there were interdependencies among those projects (and thus value in managing them in a coordinated way)—we can conclude that the overall effort was indeed a program.
Although this is a very real case, the context has been completely re-imagined to protect the privacy of the organization and its employees. This case takes place on a fictional island country called Hy-Breasal.
