You will select a budget from the folder – get in touch with me if you were not on the field trip or in class the week before. You should be using at least 90% of your budget.
Select 5 to 7 different upholstery pieces from the floor plan that require fabric.
Once you have decided which pieces you want to use, go online and find the item.
Make sure you have a good quality photo of it – colour is not necessary.
Make sure you are using the right-sized pieces; the layouts are to scale.
Make sure the pieces note how many yards of fabric it will take to cover them. Use the Fabric Calculator by Sailrite.
Select an appropriate fabric for the item from the material library in the classroom or online, based on the key principles noted above.
In the description box, indicate all important details about the fabric, including but not limited to:
Name of furnishing (e.g., lounge chair)
Fabric manufacturer (e.g., Lee Jofa)
Fabric name (e.g., Tapestry)
Fiber content (e.g., 100% Cotton)
Performance characteristics (e.g., high double rubs)
Advantages (e.g., pattern and colour will hide wear and tear)
Disadvantages (e.g., higher cost)
Why you have chosen the particular fabric (e.g., because it provides a timeless, classic appearance)
Price per yard or square foot
Please include throws or toss cushions on a separate sheet.
Have the budget breakdown on a separate sheet.
Submit selection to the D2L assignment folder. Include:
Cover sheet with project name, student name, instructor name, and course name & number.
Worksheet with furniture image and fabric sample. Fabric description along with fabric specifications (all on one page per fabric).
Description of why you selected the fabric(s) for the piece of furniture.
