During this course, you will be required to create your own algebra problem in order to complete a Write-Up assignment. The problem must be your original work, so be creative. This Signature Write-Up assignment will consist of a one- to two-page essay reflecting on how learning College Algebra skills assist your overall process of learning and how College Algebra relates to your major. You will develop a problem related to your major that uses a College Algebra skill or technique. You will solve the problem and describe your solution(s). Specific emphasis will be placed on your ability to draw conclusions and effectively communicate your method(s). Then, you will submit a 2-3 minute video describing and illustrating your problem, your solution, and how it relates to your major. This assignment will assess the following skills:
- Critical Thinking Skills – to include creative thinking, innovation, inquiry, and analysis, evaluation and synthesis of information.
- Communication Skills – to include effective development, interpretation and expression of ideas through written, oral and visual communication.
- Empirical and Quantitative Skills – to include the manipulation and analysis of numerical data or observable facts resulting in informed conclusions.
All College Algebra assignments will be completed electronically and can be accessed through Canvas. Your created question should relate to your major or future field of study and relate multiple concepts together in order to determine a solution. This process will require you to think critically in order to decide a pathway for working the problem at hand and in determining how it is meaningful to you. You will be required to illustrate within the paper how you performed mathematical operations in order to arrive at an appropriate conclusion for your scenario, and describe this process in your video.
